Originally a Portuguese painter, Francisco Tamagno (1851–1933?) lived in France, where he worked in Parisian printing houses (including Imprimerie Camis, for which Alfons Mucha also worked). He is the author of a number of advertising posters. This Tamagno's advertising poster is intended to promote meat extract from a company founded by the German chemist Justus von Liebig (1803–1873), which had a branch in Antwerp.
